There are a few cycling rules all riders should follow to help ensure a safe ride:
Ride in the same direction as traffic.
Follow all traffic signs and signals.
Yield to pedestrians.
Walk bikes on sidewalks. (Keep in mind it’s illegal to ride bikes there!)
Use hand signals when turning, and do not weave in and out of traffic.
Never ride distracted. Wearing headphones in both ears is illegal, and it’s never a good idea to use your phone while riding.
In Columbus, per City Code 2173.04, cyclists under the age of 18 must wear a helmet while riding. We do recommend that all riders wear helmets, and you are encouraged to bring your own. CoGo Bike Share offers coupons for Annual Members of 15% off a helmet at the Paradise Garage, roll:, and Revolution Cycles.
All users must be 18 years or older to ride a CoGo bike (16 and 17 year olds are permitted with a parent or guardian).
Keep in mind it's generally safest to take a route that includes a bike lane. You can use Google Maps to find routes using bike lanes.
